Michigan Again Will Host Two Sprint Cup Races Next Season

Michigan Int'l Speedway President Roger Curtis said that he has "signed sanctioning agreements" for the track to host two NASCAR Sprint Cup races again in '12. The first race is scheduled for June 17, the second on Aug. 19. After yesterday's Pure Michigan 400, the two-mile track will be "completely resurfaced for the first time since 1995" at a cost of $7M. Curtis said that the track has had $60M in improvements in the last five years (AP, 8/19).

Attendance for Sunday's race was announced at 81,000, down from 105,000 for last year's August race. The venue has a capacity of 119,500 (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 8/22).
