San Diego Fact-Finding Tour Stops In K.C., Looks At Sprint Center

San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders and advisors today will visit Indianapolis, the second stop in their three-city tour of downtown sports venues. The group stopped yesterday in K.C., where Sanders met with Mayor Sly James and got a look at Sprint Center. The 18,000-seat venue was built in '07 for $276M "using new hotel and car rental taxes," and it has generated $4.3M for the city through profit-sharing with operator AEG. Sanders: "Rather than spin our wheels and continue to talk about Qualcomm, we need to think about how we can finance a new facility downtown" (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 8/18).
