Paul Rabil's Branding Efforts Have Made Him Lacrosse's Most Well-Known Player

Paul Rabil has become the "face of lacrosse" and is the sport's first player to "surpass seven figures in career earnings, primarily off the field," according to Howie Kussoy of the N.Y. POST. Rabil, who plays for the MLL N.Y. Lizards, has endorsements with New Balance, Red Bull and GoPro, while his "list of investments is even longer, including tech startup such as Whistle Sports and Muzik, which produces smart headphones." He hosts the "Suiting Up" sports business podcast that goes live on Mondays and has attracted Patriots coach Bill Belichick and Venus Williams as guests. Later in the week, he "posts a video for the Paul Rabil Experience, which provides instructional lessons, workout techniques and nutritional advice, and is available on Amazon, through their partnership." He said, "I'm an entrepreneur by necessity. ... Our wages are a fraction of what you see in the NBA, NFL, MLB and mainstream team sports, and for guys that want to be full-time professional lacrosse players ... the fact is you have to develop alternative revenue streams to support that lifestyle." Kussoy noted Rabil has "more than 72,000 followers on Twitter and 82,000 on Facebook." He also runs his "own YouTube channel." Rabil: "I didn't know that I was building a brand, but I knew that I was communicating with a lacrosse audience that was hungry for content" (N.Y. POST, 7/13). Rabil is repped by Octagon for marketing (THE DAILY).
