NFL Officials To Discuss Security Plans For London Games Following Recent Attacks

The recent terror attacks in the U.K. will be "discussed by NFL officials over the next couple of weeks" as they "finalize plans for security for the four International Series games set to be played in London next fall," according to Albert Breer of THE MMQB (6/8). In West Palm Beach, Dave George writes the crowds "will be enormous" for each of the four London games and the NFL banner "will fly high." But he writes, "I'm guessing that fewer players will be excited about bringing their families along this time." They will "wonder if England's security is too porous in the wake" of both the June 3 London Bridge terror attack and last month's "suicide bombing at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester." However, Wembley Stadium on game day "might just be the safest place on the continent based on all the bomb-sniffing dogs and specialized guards patrolling that turf" (PALM BEACH POST, 6/8). The Cardinals play the Rams at Twickenham Stadium, and Cardinals S Antoine Bethea said, "I'll be lying if I said I'm not worrying about it. Things have been going [on] at some big-time events and things of that nature. But, at the end of the day, I'm pretty sure everybody, the league, they're going to take as much precaution as they're going to take to protect the team, the staff and even the family members that are traveling over there." Bethea noted that his wife "wants to go" on the trip. However, he added that if "more attacks occur and there's an increased concern about traveling to London," then he and his family will "talk about whether they should make the trip" (ESPN.com, 6/6). Vikings WR Adam Thielen said that he "expects there to be a 'different level of security'" at the team's game in London, which he called "a good thing." He "doesn't expect players to change their behavior leading up to the game" (ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS, 6/7).
