David Beckham's Miami MLS Group Details Off-Site Parking Plan For Possible Stadium

A lawyer for David Beckham's Miami MLS bid on Thursday night presented a stadium parking plan to a local town hall that "counted 12,380 parking spots within a 16-minute walk from the stadium site," according to Matthew DeFranks of the South Florida SUN-SENTINEL. The stadium plan does "not include on-site parking, but promises to provide 2,000 parking spots in the downtown or Civic Center area and shuttles to the garages." Attorney Neisen Kasdin and the club are promoting a "March to the Match" that would parade Miami Beckham United fans on foot to the stadium. MBU is "counting on fans using the Metrorail, ride-sharing applications and even water taxis to attend games." Miami-Dade County commissioners on Tuesday will vote to approve the land sale to Beckham's group, and Kasdin said that MBU would have "70 days from Tuesday’s vote to get approval" from MLS on their expansion bid, "including a 10-day veto period and a 60-day frame after the contract is finalized." Kasdin: "We will have a period after the contract of 60 days to get approval from Major League Soccer. If that doesn’t happen, of course, we would not go forward with the acquisition." If the sale is approved on Tuesday, MBU would be the "closest to building a stadium as it ever has been in its seemingly endless quest to bring MLS to Miami." The group would "still need to receive league approval of its expansion bid that includes an ownership structure, a stadium plan and financial projections" (South Florida SUN-SENTINEL, 6/2). In Miami, Douglas Hanks noted MBU would have "60 days to make a $450,000 down payment on the purchase as it seeks formal approval" by MLS and then would have "nine months to pay another $900,000." Beckham still must "seek approvals by the city of Miami to build the stadium" (MIAMI HERALD 6/1).
