Miller Lite, Coors Light Among Top Domestic Beer Sellers At Ohio State Football Games

Of the more than $1.1M fans spent on beer at Ohio Stadium during Ohio State's football games in '16, "three-quarters was spent on the big three light domestic brands: Miller Lite, Coors Light and Bud Light," according to Tom Knox of COLUMBUS BUSINESS FIRST. OSU and its vendor Levy Restaurants "charged $8 for light domestic beers and $9 for Ohio brews for seven home games." It was the first full year of beer sales at Ohio Stadium, which "does not sell wine or liquor like some schools do." Miller Lite is the "clear choice" for fans inside the stadium, accounting for 31.7% of alcohol sales in '16. Coors Light "followed Miller Lite" with 31.1% of sales while Bud Light came in third at 12.2%. Blue Moon is next at 7.3%, "outpacing the other premium brands Goose Island and Leinenkugel," which each notched less than 2%. As for Ohio craft beers, only one company, Land-Grant Brewing Co., "mustered above" 1%, with 4.7%. The $1,166,497 in beer sales "goes toward new police officers, more security at football games and a substance abuse center" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 3/15).
