Ravens Talking To CSN Mid-Atlantic About Content Despite RSN's Change Of Direction

A Ravens exec said CSN Mid-Atlantic may not be "totally out of everything they're doing in Baltimore" despite the RSN earlier this year not renewing its media-rights deal with the team. Ravens Senior VP/Corporate Sales & Business Development Kevin Rochlitz said he recently met with CSN officials and they are "discussing some things." The RSN had partnered with the Ravens since '10 and produced pre- and postgame shows, as well as some preseason games. Rochlitz said, "They did have a shift in philosophy there. But we will have programming (in the DC/Baltimore region).” He added, "We will have those contracts secured so fans in both markets are able to watch our information. That is a big priority for us. ... Our three shows that we do have through our broadcasting division are strong.” Meanwhile, TV ratings for Ravens games in '16 were down compared to previous seasons, and Rochlitz said that is a concern "because we look at it as probably the losses in some of the games which probably hurt us a little bit." Ratings across the NFL were down last year, and Rochlitz noted the league is "going to probably change some of the commercial breaks, which will probably makes things a little better for people." He added, "You follow and understand the ratings, but the folks at the league office really have the ultimatum on that and what they need to do. Locally, we really have to make sure we take care of the fan” ("BaltBizCast," BIZJOURNALS.com, 3/6).
