CSN Mid-Atlantic Not Renewing Media-Rights Deal With Ravens After Seven Years

The Ravens and CSN Mid-Atlantic will not renew their media-rights deal, which has seen the RSN produce pre- and postgame shows and some preseason games for the team. The Ravens and CSN Mid-Atlantic rights deal goes back to ’10. The Baltimore Sun first reported the decision. In an emailed statement, CSN said the net and the Ravens "enjoyed a great relationship, but the partnership no longer aligns with the network’s business strategy." The statement: "CSN values the Baltimore market and looks forward to continuing to provide the region’s fans with exclusive sports coverage, including Ravens news, analysis and opinion.” CSN Mid-Atlantic in October cut a rights deal with the Wizards and Capitals -- a deal that gave Monumental Sports & Entertainment, which owns the clubs, a 33% ownership stake in the network. It has been expected that the RSN will focus more programming on those two teams (John Ourand, Staff Writer). In Baltimore, Jeff Barker reports the Ravens' search for a new local TV partner is "well underway." The CSN Mid-Atlantic deal "helped the Ravens reach and cultivate their core Baltimore base as well as Marylanders living in Washington's television market but still near enough to Baltimore to be Ravens fans" (Baltimore SUN, 1/20). In DC, Scott Allen notes CSN "still has a media rights partnership with the Redskins, which is a longer-running and more comprehensive arrangement than the one the network had with the Ravens" (WASHINGTON POST, 1/20).
