Steiner Sports Becomes First Licensing Agency Of Record For Basketball HOF

The Basketball HOF has retained Steiner Sports as its first licensing agency of record. The HOF currently has a relatively small licensing program, with product available on site and online. Panini and Spalding are among the HOF's biggest licensees. Steiner will also assist in selling marketing and promotional rights for the HOF. "I feel the same way about the Basketball Hall of Fame as I felt when I organized the '69 Mets and the 1980 USA Hockey champs (for licensing/marketing-oriented) anniversary campaigns," said Steiner Sports Exec VP/Licensing and General Counsel Ed Schauder. "There's just enormous untapped potential." Steiner itself has taken a license and will sell logoed basketball display cases, as well as other products. Schauder sees opportunity across a number of product categories, including apparel, domestics or even perhaps a Pop-A-Shot game. He also thinks there is an opportunity for the HOF to do some mobile marketing. The HOF is attempting to capitalize on a year-long 125th anniversary of basketball celebration, which began in mid-December.
