New Kid On The Block: Auston Matthews Just Behind Sidney Crosby In NHL Jersey Sales

Jersey sales for Maple Leafs C Auston Matthews through the first three months of the '16-17 season reflect his status as a "rookie sensation," as his sweater was the "second-highest-selling jersey" on Shop.NHL.com, according to Greg Wyshynski of YAHOO SPORTS. Matthews was right behind Penguins C Sidney Crosby, who had the highest-selling jersey for all of '16. Matthews "ended up with the seventh-best-selling jersey" for '16. Rangers LW Rick Nash, Flyers D Shayne Gostisbehere and Red Wings C Dylan Larkin are "three players who didn’t make the Top 15 in '16 that are currently there." Wild LW Zach Parise, Penguins C Evgeni Malkin and Penguins D Kris Letang "fell out of the top 15" (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 1/31). Blackhawks C Jonathan Toews "led the NHL in jersey sales" in '15, while Blackhawks RW Patrick Kane "had the honour" in '14 (SPORTSNET.ca, 1/31).
