Double Fault: Recent Tennis Trend Has Opponents Wearing The Same Outfit

A recent trend in tennis has seen both players in a match wearing the same outfit "all the way down to the shoes," according to Tennis Channel's Ted Robinson. Jack Sock and Ryan Harrison wore the same Nike clothes during a match in the ATP/WTA ASB Classic in Auckland, while Asics provided the same outfits to both Coco Vandeweghe and Daria Gavrilova for an exhibition match at the Hopman Cup in Perth, Australia. Tennis Channel's Tracy Austin noted Vandeweghe and Gavrilova at least were wearing different-colored visors, but she said wearing the same outfits is "confusing to the fans, and also very boring." Austin: “Each manufacturer should come up with two or three different outfits so that this doesn't happen. When you’re looking at a match on television, unless you know that Jack Sock hits a certain way or Ryan Harrison hits a backhand differently, it is tough to tell (the players apart).” Tennis Channel’s Mark Knowles called the trend "absolutely bizarre," saying, "I was sponsored by Nike for 25 years, and I felt like we had a lot of choices. We made sure that we didn't have the same outfit." Knowles: "I kind of feel like I am looking at my wife's People magazine: Who wore it best?” (“Tennis Channel Live,” Tennis Channel, 1/11).
