Super Bowl 50, Panthers Among Top Trending Sports Events, Teams On Twitter In '16

Some of the most impactful teams and events in sports made their way through the Bay Area in '16, leading them to be the most-talked about stories on Twitter over the last year. Super Bowl 50, played at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, was the top U.S. sports trend in '16 on Twitter, followed by the Rio Games, NBA Finals, World Series and a tribute day for retiring Lakers G Kobe Bryant (#MambaDay). Despite losing the Super Bowl, the Panthers and their #KeepPounding hashtag trended the most of all U.S. sports teams in '16. The Warriors, losers of the NBA Finals to the Cavaliers, were the second-highest trending U.S. team with #DubNation, followed by the World Series-winning Cubs, the USOC and the Broncos.
