Pennsylvania Pols Urge MLB To Reconsider Move From Majestic To Under Armour

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf has asked MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred to reconsider the deal to "switch the league's uniform provider from Majestic to Under Armour," according to Daniel Craig of PHILLYVOICE.com. Majestic's HQ is in Florida but "has its manufacturing facilities" in Easton, Pa. Wolf in a letter yesterday "asked Manfred for a chance to discuss the possibility of the league keeping Majestic before a final deal with Under Armour was reached." Wolf "cited the Easton location's proximity to several major MLB teams -- including the Phillies and the Pirates -- and the company's 'dedicated and highly-skilled workforce'" (PHILLYVOICE.com, 11/2). In Pennsylvania, Laura Olson noted U.S. Sen Bob Casey (D-Pa.) also wrote a letter to Manfred "urging the league to consider the effect on Lehigh Valley jobs." Casey asked the league to "fully review 'any options that will preserve these jobs and maintain the facility" in Easton. He offered to "work with the league on maintaining the 620 jobs there, using any relevant federal programs." He also "praised the dedication of Majestic employees, citing the recent quick turnaround on jerseys to honor" late Marlins P Jose Fernandez (Allentown MORNING CALL, 10/27).
