NFL Franchise Notes: Family Of Slain Man Files Wrongful-Death Suit Against Chiefs

In K.C., Tony Rizzo writes the family of a man "beaten to death" in a parking lot outside Arrowhead Stadium during a Chiefs game in December '13 "has filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against" the team. According to the lawsuit, while the confrontation "was going on in the parking lot, there were no security guards, police officers or any other stadium personnel in the vicinity." Included in the suit "is a list of 60 incidents of violence reported in and around Arrowhead Stadium" from '00-'13. The suit "seeks an unspecified amount in damages" (K.C. STAR, 7/13).

LARGER IMPLICATIONS: In Tampa, Tom Jones writes the Buccaneers should be "leading the way by sending the message" that an anti-semitic comment made by CB Brent Grimes' wife, Miko, "should never be tolerated." Not because the Bucs' owners "are Jewish, but because it's the right thing to do and because their stance carries weight." Jones: "To ignore such views is to be complicit in her discrimination -- and that goes for all of us." Do "not think for a second" that the Bucs' response "doesn't reflect back on the organization" (TAMPA BAY TIMES, 7/13).

FOSTER CARE: The 49ers have "taken over management of the Foster Farms Bowl" from the S.F. Bowl Game Association. It also "signed a four-year deal with Fox Sports to televise the game at Levi’s Stadium" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 7/13).

CELEBRATE GOOD TIMES: ESPN BOSTON's Mike Reiss noted Patriots season-ticket holders over the past week "were sent their annual packages" that indicate how the team "plans to celebrate the 15-year anniversary of its first Super Bowl championship team." The images on the tickets capture "top memories" from the '01 Super Bowl season (ESPNBOSTON.com, 7/12).
