Franchise Notes

In Las Vegas, Steve Carp notes as Bill Foley's NHL expansion team "closes in" on a GM, the team owner and his seven-member staff "spent last week at his Montana ranch interviewing seven candidates." While Foley "would not reveal who the finalists are or who the pool of seven interviewees were, he said they were all solid hockey people who have a wide range of expertise." Foley said that some of the candidates "currently work for NHL teams and to make their names public could cause problems with their employers" (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 7/12).

AWARE OF THE SITUATION: In Tampa, Greg Auman notes the Buccaneers "were aware" of an anti-semitic comment made by Bucs CB Brent Grimes' wife, Miko, about Dolphins Owner Stephen Ross and Dolphins Exec VP/Football Operations Mike Tannenbaum. The team "had no immediate response" yesterday. The nature of "the 'Jew Buddies' comment has relevance with the Bucs because the Glazer family, which owns the team, is Jewish" (TAMPA BAY TIMES, 7/12).

DRESSED FOR SUCCESS: The NFL Giants yesterday announced that they "will wear white uniform pants for their regular-season home games this season." ESPN.com's Dan Graziano wrote they will use gray pants "for their preseason games." Graziano: "I don't love the white pants either. I think it looks a little too Little League" (ESPN.com, 7/11).
