MLB's Jonathan Mariner Leaving League Today After More Than 14 Years

MLB Chief Investment Officer JONATHAN MARINER is leaving the league, effective today, after more than 14 years. One of the highest ranking minorities in the sport, Mariner began in the commissioner’s office in early ’02 under now-MLB Commissioner Emeritus BUD SELIG after serving as Marlins Exec VP & CFO. Mariner shifted from his prior role as MLB CFO to Chief Investment Officer early last year as Commissioner ROB MANFRED built out his senior staff. While with MLB, Mariner created a league-wide risk management program and new club financial reporting system, oversaw MLB’s $1.5B pension plan and played a key role in the implementation of baseball’s debt service rule. Mariner’s duties will now be taken over by current MLB CFO BOB STARKEY. Mariner is the second senior MLB exec to leave in the last month following the departure of CMO JACQUELINE PARKES, who is now with MTV.
