Vikings Fail In Initial Efforts For Extensive Advertising On Planned Indoor Facility

The Vikings' plan for "extensive advertising on the team’s planned indoor practice facility in Eagan," including a request to display "yet-to-be determined naming rights’ advertising on the exterior" of the building, was not endorsed by city officials on Tuesday, according to Nick Ferraro of the ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS. The Vikings want to have ads "on all four sides of the approximately 100,000-square-foot practice facility, which would be 110 feet tall." The club also wants the ads "to take up as much as 50 percent of each side." However, the Eagan Advisory Planning Commission recommended to the city council that the Vikings "follow city guidelines, which limit advertising to two sides of a building and no more than 20 percent of each facade." Commission members largely were "fine with the team’s plan for a giant Norseman logo and team lettering, agreeing that they should not fall under the advertising guidelines" (ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS, 4/27).
