Gillette Stadium To Host NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championships In '17, '18

The NCAA will again hold its men's lacrosse championships at Gillette Stadium in '17 and '18 "after successful ventures" in '08, '09 and '12, according to Samuel Evers of the BOSTON GLOBE. Harvard will be the official host school of both tournaments. The D-I final in '08 "set the championship attendance record with a total of 48,970 tickets sold" (BOSTON GLOBE, 4/13). In Baltimore, Edward Lee notes the city, which has "served as the site of the championships six previous times, was not in the running" for the '17 and '18 championships, "citing scheduling conflicts with the Orioles" (Baltimore SUN, 4/13). Speculation "has been made about the future" of the NCAA men's lacrosse championship weekend. During the Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association Convention coaches were "more open than in the past to moving the game later into the summer or returning back to college campuses." That was "not an option" for '17 and '18, as the bid process "had already been opened" (INSIDELACROSSE.com, 4/12).
