Comerica Park Debuting Several New Features For '16 As Tigers Open Home Slate

Comerica Park will have "several new features" tomorrow when the Tigers host their home opener against the Yankees, according to Carlos Monarrez of the DETROIT FREE PRESS. One of the "most noticeable differences fans will see is the new fixed-food locations on the concourse that replace the portable carts." Each location "has video menu boards" and the ballpark will "feature nearly 20 new menu items." Delaware North Sportservice GM of Comerica Park Robert Thormeier said, "It'll give a clearly different look on the concourse than what we had before. It opened up some views into the stadium. It's a neat little setup." Another new addition is the "Chevrolet Pavilion in leftfield, which offers several seating options." Thormeier: "We removed some bleachers that were under the scoreboard and we put in kind of a deck with a front row of seating. ... It's got to two bars that'll go out there doing packaged beer." Tigers Dir of Promotions & Special Events Eli Bayless is "especially excited" about the team's "first kids book giveaway" that will take place on Mother's Day. Bayless: "We worked with a children's author and created this awesome book about Miguel Cabrera's story, how he came from the country of Venezuela and through his mom and his family learned the game of baseball." Bayless said that players are "involved in the process" of creating bobbleheads of themselves. Bayless: "You don't make it until you're on a bobblehead, man" (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 4/7).
