Frisco RoughRiders Formally Unveil Lazy River Plans; Choctaw Casinos Sign As Sponsor

The Double-A Texas League Frisco RoughRiders on Thursday formally unveiled plans for their lazy river outfield feature at Dr Pepper Ballpark, which will be sponsored by Choctaw Casinos of Oklahoma. The lazy river is part of a planned 12,000-square-foot outfield party/group hospitality area scheduled for completion in early June. It features a depth of three feet, and end-to-end span of 175 feet, bordered by two eight-foot waterfalls that will drop into a reservoir behind the outfield wall (RoughRiders). RoughRiders General Partner & CEO Chuck Greenberg dreamed up the lazy river concept, but he said that he "never imagined the response he's been getting in recent weeks from across the nation." Greenberg: "We may really be on to something special." In Dallas, Valerie Wigglesworth reported the river will replace a "smaller swimming pool that was typically booked during home games for private parties." Greenberg said that the pool "offered great views of the ball field but didn't stand out enough." Greenberg: “We wanted a signature visual element that would be a dominant presence no matter where you were.” Wigglesworth noted the new area, which includes "two open-air cabana structures for food and beverage service," will be available for rent by private parties. The area will also feature "Thursday Night Pool Party" tickets for $39. Tickets will include access to the river, pre-game live music, all-you-can-eat food and Dr Pepper products (DALLASNEWS.com, 2/25).
