Double-A Frisco RoughRiders Contemplating Replacing Ballpark Pool With Lazy River

The Double-A Texas League Frisco RoughRiders are looking at a new round of renovations to Dr Pepper Ballpark, including "revamping the pool area that sits just over the fence in right field," according to Valerie Wigglesworth of the DALLAS MORNING NEWS. The idea right now is to "take out the existing swimming pool -- which is available for private rental -- and replace it with a much larger lazy river feature." The design also calls for "several cascading water features that will allow images to be projected on them." Early designs also "show a new cabana and bar and wood party decks." Changes to the pool are "still in the conceptual stage." Team officials said that they "still have some issues to work through before deciding whether to move forward." None of the designs have been approved. The RoughRiders completed nearly $5M in improvements to the park before the start of the '15 season, and their efforts "paid off with record crowds" (DALLASNEWS.com, 1/22). In N.Y., Mark Emery writes of the lazy river concept, "Now this is out of left field. Just when you thought baseball couldn't get any more relaxed" (NYDAILYNEWS.com, 1/25).
