Under Armour's Plank Starts Entrepreneurship Contest, Donates To High School Alma Mater

Under Armour Founder, Chair & CEO KEVIN PLANK yesterday "kicked off the annual Cupid's Cup Entrepreneurship Competition and is accepting applications from undergraduate and graduate students or recent alumni who are 30 or younger," accoding to Lorraine Mirabella of the Baltimore SUN. Applicants "must be running a legal business that has shown 'proof of traction.'" The contest is "expanding from its original partnership" with the Univ. of Maryland to "include a consortium of more than 20 universities, business schools and entrepreneurship centers." The competition is "named for Cupid's Valentine Rose Delivery, one of Plank's first businesses." Contestants will "compete for $100,000 in total cash prizes, access to Plank's professional network and the Cupid's Cup title." The final competition is scheduled for April 7 at UM's Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center (BALTIMORESUN.com, 11/9). Meanwhile, in Baltimore, Christopher Dinsmore noted Plank pledged $16M to his alma mater, St. John's College High School in DC, "from his private foundation." The gift from the Cupid Foundation will "anchor a capital campaign to support athletics, academics and entrepreneurship initiatives" (BALTIMORESUN.com, 11/9).
