AD AGE's Anthony Crupi wrote on a night when DraftKings and FanDuel "combined to spend nearly a half-million dollars on ESPN, NBCSN, TNT, FS1 and NFL Network, the daily fantasy sports giants were all but AWOL" during Mets-Royals World Series Game 1. DraftKings "ponied up for a single 30-second spot toward the conclusion" of Tuesday night's game, while FanDuel "sat it out altogether." iSpot.tv estimates show that since MLB's season began in April, DraftKings "has run 736 ads in live baseball telecasts ... while FanDuel aired about a tenth as many spots (69)." That DraftKings "is a much more enthusiastic backer of baseball is by design; after all, the MLB holds an equity stake." FanDuel "enjoys no such relationship with the league, and as such is not expected to show up at all over the course of the World Series" (ADAGE.com, 10/28).

FOOD AT THE PHONE BOOTH: In DC, Clinton Yates noted the Wizards and Capitals both have a new promotion with McDonald's wherein you "download the restaurant’s app and if either team is winning after one period or quarter, you get a free Egg McMuffin." In the past, these teams' promotions involving food at Verizon Center "centered around the end of a game rather than something so early on." In 82 regular-season games last season, the Wizards "led after one quarter 45 times" and the Capitals "did it 30 times." If both teams "accomplish the feat," fans can only receive one item. The list of places available "is quite long, extending beyond the D.C. metropolitan area" (WASHINGTONPOST.com, 10/28).

DAN THE MAN: The South Florida Ford Dealers' Association on Tuesday named Pro Football HOFer Dan Marino brand ambassador, and he will be featured in ads and promos through the year (South Florida Ford).
