Twitter To Debut New Moments Function During Tonight's Astros-Yankees Wild Card Game

Twitter this morning debuted Moments, a new function to curate and showcase news events being discussed on the social media platform. Formerly known as Project Lightning during its development, Moments will allow for a more magazine-style immersion into a particular story as it unfolds and will include text, videos, Vines, GIF files and photos. Twitter is collaborating with several launch partners for the debut of Moments. MLBAM and Bleacher Report are among an initial group that also includes the N.Y. Times, Getty Images, NASA and Buzzfeed, among others. MLBAM's work with Moments will debut formally during tonight's Astros-Yankees AL Wild Card Game in N.Y. Moments is also designed in part to help newer users not feel intimidated with the flood of information on Twitter. "Every day, people share hundreds of millions of tweets. Among them are things you can't experience anywhere but on Twitter: conversations between world leaders and celebrities, citizens reporting on events as they happen, cultural memes, live commentary on the night's big game, and many more," a Twitter blog post stated. "We know finding those only-on-Twitter moments can be a challenge, especially if you haven't followed certain accounts. But it doesn't have to be. Moments helps you find the best of Twitter as easily as tapping an icon -- regardless of who you follow." Though in development for nearly a year, Moments also arrives a day after the appointment of Twitter co-Founder Jack Dorsey as the company's new CEO.
