ESPN Sees Decline For Week 2 "MNF" Overnight With Jets 20-7 Win Over The Colts

ESPN last night drew a 9.3 overnight rating for the Jets' 20-7 win over the Colts on "MNF," down 6% from a 9.9 for the Eagles' last-second win over the Colts in Week 2 last year. The 9.3 also is down from a 10.3 for Steelers-Bengals in '13 and an 11.3 for Broncos-Falcons in '12. Jets-Colts peaked at a 10.7 rating from 9:45-10:00pm ET. The game drew a 13.5 local rating in N.Y. (9.3 on ESPN, 4.3 on WPIX-CBS). Indianapolis drew a 32.2 local rating (12.0 on ESPN, 20.2 on WRTV-ABC). The top five markets were rounded out by Las Vegas (15.5), New Orleans (15.3) and West Palm Beach (13.8). Jets-Colts also marked the third-best "MNF" audience ever on WatchESPN, behind only Week 1's doubleheader this season. Meanwhile, SNY last night drew a 1.16 local rating in N.Y. for "Jets Post Game Live," marking the RSN's best figure ever for the show during the regular season. Only the postgame show following the Jets-Chargers AFC Divisional playoff game on January 17, 2010 earned a higher rating (Austin Karp, Assistant Managing Editor).

SHOULD HAVE PUNTED: In N.Y., John Koblin notes Sunday's Emmy Awards on Fox was the "least-watched in the show's history, drawing just 11.9 million viewers." The show was "hurt by going up against NBC’s 'Sunday Night Football,'" which featured Seahawks-Packers. Viewership for the Emmys had "been trending in a positive direction in the previous two years" (N.Y. TIMES, 9/22).

REMEMBER THE TITANS? In Nashville, Mike Organ notes local ratings for Sunday's Titans-Browns game "dropped from the opening week of the season." The game, which kicked off at 12:00pm CT on WTVF-CBS, earned a 22.9 local rating. The Titans' season opener against the Buccaneers, which kicked off at 3:25pm, earned a 26.6 rating -- the "highest rating for any TV program on any station in Nashville" since February's Super Bowl (Nashville TENNESSEAN, 9/22).

LIGHTS, CAM, ACTION: In Charlotte, Erik Spanberg noted viewership "increased" for the Panthers for their win over the Texans on Sunday, but "still fell short by 5% compared with the second week" of the '14 season. An average of 389,000 people watched Texans-Panthers locally on WBTV-CBS, "compared with 408,000 for the Panthers’ second game last year." In Week 1, WJZY-Fox "saw the audience decrease by 40% year over year, to 310,000 viewers" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 9/21).
