Yankees' Mark Teixeira Expresses Concern About Sharing Ballpark Field With NYC FC

NYC FC has two MLS home games scheduled for Yankee Stadium before MLB Opening Day, and Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira "didn’t seem too excited about sharing the pitch with another team," according to Red & Feinsand of the N.Y. DAILY NEWS. Teixeira said, "It's going to suck, but you have to deal with it. It's going to tear up the infield, but there's nothing we can do about it, so we'll deal with it." But Yankees President Randy Levine said, "We spent a lot of time going through the process to make sure that the field would be in good shape for both baseball and soccer. We spent a lot of time with a lot of people, including our stadium operations and grounds crew, who we think are best in the world." Yankees manager Joe Girardi "is taking a wait-and-see approach." He said of sharing the field, "I think you have to see how it affects it before you really make a judgment on it." Levine: "It was well thought out and if we didn't think it could happen in a very, very good way, we wouldn't have done it" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 3/12). In N.Y., Filip Bondy writes the relationship between the Yankees and NYC FC "might qualify as an all-out turf war." Media Day for NYC FC at Yankee Stadium yesterday "was a weird affair ... if only because security guards prevented reporters from going beyond drawn curtains to see the patch-quilt field" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 3/12).
