In Florida, Ken Willis reports Daytona Int'l Speedway "will get more SAFER Barriers on those sections of concrete walls that remained bare" at the time of Kyle Busch’s Feb. 21 accident, which "resulted in a compound fracture to his right leg and fracture to his left foot." The reported estimated cost of SAFER Barrier "is $500 per foot." DIS "didn’t announce the total of additional SAFER Barrier it will install" (Datyona Beach NEWS-JOURNAL, 3/12).

SPRING CLEANING: In West Palm Beach, Bill DiPaolo notes "new hunter green seats and more access to batting practice" are some of the $1.6M in improvements "greeting Roger Dean Stadium fans at this year’s spring training games." The 5,500 new seats -- "varying between 19 and 21 inches wide -- cost about $600,000." A new sound system "cost about $110,000." Updates to the restrooms, concession stands, lighting and computer system "are the other updates to the stadium that is the spring training home" to the Cardinals and Marlins (PALM BEACH POST, 3/12).

HEAVY METAL: In Pittsburgh, Jon Schmitz reports the Pirates "are installing 44 walk-through metal detectors at the gates to PNC Park" to comply with an MLB directive "requiring security screening at all stadiums starting this season" (PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 3/12).

COWBOY UP: The DALLAS MORNING NEWS noted the Cowboys on Monday announced the sale of standing-room-only season tickets "priced at $249 for eight regular season and two exhibition games," which marks a $50 increase from '14. The tickets, called Party Passes, "allow fans to move about the party decks and open spaces in the main concourses" (DALLASNEWS.com, 3/9).
