The SLOC will cut off the first round of ticket
requests at midnight Tuesday, although premium ticket
packages will remain available, according to Zack Van Eyck
of the DESERET NEWS. Ticket request figures show that so
far, Salt Lake City residents "have accounted for" $9.1M in
requests, while CA Bay Area residents are second at $3.8M.
SLOC President Mitt Romney said that "as of this weekend,
the total value of tickets requested is $62 million." Van
Eyck wrote that considering SLOC's total budget for U.S.
public sales is $68M, and the Games are 14 months away,
"that isn't bad at all." Romney: "This has been a much
hotter ticket than we ever imagines. We are way ahead of
our expectations and way ahead of prior Olympic Games in
terms of timing." Van Eyck noted that "so far," 42% of all
ticket requests have come from UT, with CA next at 13%.
Figure Skating "leads the way" in number of tickets
requested with 107,000. Hockey, "both men's and women's,"
is second with 88,000 tickets requested, "followed by ski
jumping (43,000), cross-country skiing (39,000), freestyle
aerials (32,000), snowboarding (30,000), bobsleigh (29,000),
and downhill skiing (27,000)" (DESERET NEWS, 12/10). The
SLOC runs a full page ad in USA Today promoting Tuesday
night's ticket-request deadline (THE DAILY).
