OLYMPIC NOTES

UPS said it will decide within a week whether to extend
its IOC worldwide sponsorship for $65M (DESERET NEWS, 12/8).
...New USOC President Sandy Baldwin, on the USOC's financial
status: "We're not the kind of organization that can spend
more than it takes in. Corporate sponsorship is not growing
in leaps and bounds. We have to manage our resources and
create new ones. We are solvent. That does not mean we
don't need to be prudent" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 12/10)....A SALT
LAKE TRIBUNE editorial criticizes the USOC's legal attempts
not to disclose the results of drug tests of its athletes
dating back to '84. The editorial stated, "Does the USOC
share the win-at-all-costs mentality that seems to have
seized control of big-time athletics? ... The USOC should
release all records of drug tests and be ready to make
whatever explanations are necessary" (S.L. TRIBUNE, 12/9).
