KNIGHT, SNEAKER-MAKER HAVE CONVERSE OPINIONS ON END OF DEAL

          Less than two months after IN Univ. fired men's
     basketball coach Bobby Knight, MA-based Converse "canceled"
     his promotional contract, according to Terry Horne of the
     INDIANAPOLIS STAR.  Earlier this month, Knight countered by
     filing a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Indianapolis,
     "claiming that Converse hasn't paid" his $450,000
     promotional fee from the past school year's contract and the
     $119,726 owed on this year's contract before cancellation. 
     Converse General Counsel Jack Green declined comment on the
     suit, while Knight's attorney, Russell Yates, said that the
     company's finances "were apparently the reason Knight wasn't
     paid."  Yates: "I guess they decided to put us on the
     unpayable list" (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 11/29).
