PLEASANT RULING: JUDGE TRIPLES AWARD TO COURSE OWNER

Worcester, MA, Superior Court Judge John McCann awarded
Pleasant Valley Corp. (PV) "triple damages" in its lawsuit
against LPGA tournament sponsor AreaWeb.com and its
tournament promoters, Entertainment Sports Equities (ESE)
and Golf Classics, according to Joe Gordon of the BOSTON
HERALD. Gordon noted that PV Owner Ted Mingolla "agreed to
stage" the '99 LPGA Tour event under a contract with
rightsholder ESE, and in the suit filed in September '99,
Mingolla charged ESE with "failure to meet contractual
obligations," citing newspaper stories of the "near
cancellation" of the event one week prior to its start
because ESE "hadn't paid certain fees" to the LPGA. Gordon
also noted that the suit charged ESE with misleading
promotional advertising for claiming several top players who
were planning to play didn't come to the event. Mingolla
said, "The gist of the case was we sued for damages of more
than $240,000 and the judge tripled the damages" to
$762,000, including attorney fees (BOSTON HERALD, 10/22).
