CONVERSE DENIES REPORT THAT IT IS GOING OUT OF BUSINESS

          MA-based Converse denied an ESPN.com report (see THE
     DAILY, 10/18) that suggested the company is on the verge of
     going out of business.  Converse Chair & CEO Glenn Rupp:
     "The report regarding the Company's demise is wrong. ... Our
     business continues absolutely uninterrupted, with our
     factories on schedule for delivery of the spring product
     line."  Rupp added, "To be sure, the Company faces
     significant challenges with respect to its indebtedness and
     continues to talk to its financing sources concerning the
     restructuring of its obligations" (Converse).
