LEAGUE NOTE: TRIPLE A WORLD SERIES FAILING TO DRAW

In Edmonton, Gerry Prince writes that Dirs of Triple A
baseball have voted to keep the Triple A World Series in Las
Vegas "for at least one more year." But all "indications"
are that the event will "proceed without the backing" of the
Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA). The
LVCVA had paid $750,000 to "bankroll" the event for its
first three years. Also, The Money Store, which paid
$300,000 over the past two years, is also dropping its tie
to the event (EDMONTON SUN, 9/21). In Las Vegas, Joe Hawk
writes that the average attendance for the first three games
this week at Cashman Field is 2,400 writes, but "actual
butts in the seats is closer to 1,500." Hawk: "No one in
Las Vegas cares about the Triple-A World Series. Not enough
to matter, that is" (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 9/21).
