MOTOWN WORKING OVERTIME TO MEET NFL SPECS FOR SUPER BOWL BID

Detroit's Super Bowl Executive Bid Team is "expected to
tell" the NFL today that Ford Field, set to open in 2002,
"will have the lighting, seating and cable television
connections needed to host the 2006 Super Bowl," according
to Daniel Fricker of the DETROIT FREE PRESS. The bid group
is scheduled to meet with NFL owners and execs on Tuesday in
Chicago. The league "wants assurance" that the 65,000-seat
stadium can temporarily accommodate 70,000 fans for the
Super Bowl. In addition, the NFL wants local hotels to sign
commitments to provide 17,500 full-service rooms at prices
"no more than" 10% above the rooms' most expensive rates
during the prior year. The city's bid team has secured
commitments for 13,800 rooms (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 9/21).
