OVERFLOW (YIKES!): In Boston, Scott Van Voorhis cites
Patriots officials as saying that they are "still
investigating" the exact cause of the water problem that
left some toilets unworkable and disrupted other services
during Sunday's game at Foxboro Stadium. Patriots execs
discovered the problem at halftime and "quickly" ordered an
emergency delivery of portable toilets while also "turning
on the pumps" to the nearby water tower. Patriots VP & COO
Andy Wasynczuk: "It now appears the water tower was not
full, which it should've been" (BOSTON HERALD, 9/19).
THANKS: In thanking Brown County voters for passing
last week's referendum, Packers President Bob Harlan is
featured in a videotaped message that was provided to local
TV stations for airing on last Friday's evening news. An ad
thanking voters was to appear in the Green Bay Press-Gazette
and News-Chronicle. The team also will be purchasing time
for a thank you spot on local radio stations (Packers).
NEW DIGS? Cardinals 1B Mark McGwire, on the team's plan
for a new ballpark: "Once I saw the renderings, my mouth
dropped. I said, 'This probably will be the most beautiful
stadium built, where people can sit there and watch the
game, see the Arch and downtown.' It's unbelievable."
McGwire, on financing: "It's very unfortunate it has to come
down to taxpayers' dollars and this and that. All the red
tape and that junk" (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 9/15).
BIG SCREEN TV: The Bears unveiled a new video screen at
Soldier Field. The Bears had been the "only team" in the
NFL without a video board in its stadium, and the team
claims that its new 23-foot by 30-foot screen is the
"highest resolution screen" in the NFL (SUN-TIMES, 9/18).
