HAWAII NOT LEI-ING DOWN FOR ANYONE: LOOKING TO GROW IMAGE

The HI Tourism Authority (HTA) agreed on Wednesday to
pay nearly" $20M to stage the Pro Bowl at Aloha Stadium
through 2005, according to Glenn Scott of the HONOLULU
ADVERTISER. In a related move, HTA board members "backed
negotiations for a long-term deal" with the PGA Tour to
guarantee that HI will play host to six events each year,
including the PGA's first two events in January. The new
deal "expands" HI's options in developing new business by
allowing the state a "limited use" of the Pro Bowl logo, the
right to develop a Pro Bowl museum to "lure more visitors
and other chances to recapture some of its investment"
through tour packages, sponsorships and creation of related
Pro Bowl-week activities (HONOLULU ADVERTISER, 9/14).
