MAKING HIS MARK: IMG CEO MARK MCCORMACK writes a column
in today's Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE: "We have all heard the
adage, 'If you want a job done right, give it to the busiest
person you know.' That's because busy people have good work
habits and know how to work effectively. There's a
corollary to this adage, however, that's equally important:
Never give an important job to people who tell you how busy
they are." More McCormack: "People who tell you they're too
busy never seem to get this concept. They're so busy
building up their network and racing from one 'contact' to
another, they never have time to nurture the strong
relationships that mean the difference between making
something happen and just missing out" (STAR TRIBUNE, 8/15).
MORE NAMES: USA TODAY's Dan Rafael writes that the NV
Athletic Commission meets tomorrow "to review" the license
of Top Rank's BOB ARUM. Arum admitted to paying a $100,000

ranking" AXEL SCHULZ and sanctioning his heavyweight title
bout with GEORGE FOREMAN. Arum will appear before NV's
commissioners "to explain" his recent testimony against Lee
in a recent federal racketeering trial (USA TODAY,
8/15)....BLOOMBERG NEWS' Michael Buteau writes that
Morgantown, WV, officials renamed a street at the
intersection of Beechurst Avenue and Monongahela Boulevard
as JERRY WEST BOULEVARD. West, who last week retired as
Lakers Exec VP, attended West VA Univ (BLOOMBERG,
8/15)....CNNfn's Tony Guida profiled former Yankees C and
Atlantic League Newark Bears President RICK CERONE. Cerone,
on promoting the Bears: "You have a lot of competition for
the sports dollar right here. So, we have to be a little
bit better. We have to be a little more gimmicky, give away
things. It's all marketing." Guida stated despite losing
$500,000 "during the Bears' first season, Cerone is
committed to the future of his team" (CNNfn, 8/14).
