MEDIA NOTES

          TV MONITOR: Last night's 10:00pm ET 60-minute edition
     of FSN's "National Sports Report" led with a 3:03 report on
     Fox NFL analyst Michael Irvin being arrested on a
     misdemeanor drug charge, followed by Brewers-Giants.  "NSR"
     had 7:43 of total NFL coverage.  Last night's 11:00pm ET 30-
     minute edition of CNN/SI's "Sports Tonight" led with a 1:17
     report on Irvin, followed by A's-Yankees.  "Sports Tonight"
     had 3:03 of total NFL coverage.  Last night's 11:00pm ET 60-
     minute edition of ESPN's "SportsCenter" led with a 5:28
     report on Irvin's arrest, followed by A's-Yankees. 
     "SportsCenter" had 16:29 of total NFL coverage.  Total NFL
     coverage includes Irvin (THE DAILY).
          WILL IRVIN'S ARREST AFFECT POSITION W/ FOX? In Dallas,
     Bensman & Klein report that former Cowboys WR Michael Irvin
     "was arrested" on a misdemeanor marijuana charge yesterday
     during a federal drug task-force "raid."  On a police
     custody report, Irvin listed his occupation as "broadcaster"
     and his employer as "Fox."  Fox Sports Senior VP Lou
     D'Ermilio: "We don't yet have all the facts, and until we do
     we have no comment."  Fox hired Irvin in July (DMN, 8/10).
          TV NOTES: ABC Sports announced that it will broadcast a
     three-game Nike Road to Glory tournament as a "tune-up" for
     the U.S. women's national soccer team before the 2000 Summer
     Olympics in Sydney. The first match of the tournament,
     airing from 2:00-4:00pm ET on Sunday, features the U.S. vs.
     Russia in a live broadcast from Navy-Marine Corps Stadium in
     Annapolis, MD.  J.P. Dellacamera will call the game along
     with former U.S. women's national team coach Tony DiCicco
     and team member Tisha Venturini (ELECTRONIC MEDIA,
     8/9)....In Minneapolis, Judd Zulgad writes that former
     "longtime" North Stars D and broadcaster Tom Reid will serve
     as the analyst for the Wild's 75-broadcast schedule on KMSP-
     UPNand FSN MN, while FSN MN's Eric Nelson "is expected to
     serve as host of the broadcasts" (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE,
     8/10)....In Toronto, William Houston writes that CTV
     SportsNet "is bringing in" Canadian sprinter Donovan Bailey
     as an analyst for its live coverage of the 100-meter race at
     the Canadian track and field championships Saturday. 
     Bailey's commentary "will be worth listening to, given the
     rocky relationship" between Bailey and Canada's "other
     sprint star," Bruny Surin, who will be running in the race. 
     While working as an analyst for the CBC, Bailey "criticized"
     Surin's performance in the world championships, where Surin
     finished second, as "flawed" (Toronto GLOBE & MAIL,
     8/10)....Glen Dehmer, sports anchor and reporter at
     Orlando's WFTV-ABC, has been hired by the Sunshine Network
     to serve as the network's reporter in the Tampa/St.
     Petersburg area (Sunshine).
          WEB NOTES: Broadband Sports' AthletesDirect.com
     announced that it has launched the official Web site for
     figure skater Tara Lipinski at www.taralipinski.com
     (Broadband Sports)....KCCN 1420-AM, the official radio
     station for the Univ. of HI (UH) sports teams, announced an
     Internet and marketing partnership with 
     RainbowSportsNetwork.com, making over 140 UH sports
     broadcasts available live on the site (KCCN).
