TV and film producers Randall Badat and Kenneth Berris
"have an idea for a Gen-X golf" TV game show that they "soon
hope to sell to ESPN or Fox," according to GOLFWORLD. The
"concept of Killer Golf is to spin off the success" of shows
like "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" and "Survivor" by
"placing contestants in a simulator where they would play
shots to imaginary holes that look like they were taken from
a George Lucas movie." Each week, contestants will compete
for a $40,000 first prize. Each show will also feature a
"closest-to-the-pin contest on the 10th hole between 10
audience members," and the winner will return later in the
year to compete against other winners for the chance to win
$1M. Additionally, the studio audience "will be allowed to
yell and scream in the contestants' backswings." Badat and
Berris partnered with Gaylord's Terry Jastrow and Michael
Pithey to "help the idea evolve from a CD-Rom game to a
virtual-reality" TV show. Jastrow will film two pilots in
Orlando this month. Badat, on the idea: "The game-show
craze has kind of helped us along, but we were way ahead of
the curve. Ken and I started with this thing about three
years ago. We were sort of fighting an uphill battle
because people weren't sure that game shows were going to be
in vogue" (GOLFWORLD, 8/11).
