Univ. of NC (UNC) AD Dick Baddour has heard
"complaints" over the "interlocking 'NC' on the front" of
the UNC men's basketball team's Nike Jordan Brand uniforms,
according to Caulton Tudor of the Raleigh NEWS & OBSERVER.
UNC student Casey Privette has called the uniforms an
"eyesore" and has "launched a fan rebellion" on his Web
site, "appealing to Internet users" to speak out against the
uniforms and lobby for a "return to a more traditional
look." While Baddour said most of the letters about the new
uniforms "stopped after January," Tudor writes, "Enough fans
apparently objected to create deep thinking about the coming
fall fashion line." While Baddour wouldn't say whether the
previous uniform style was "about to stage a quick
comeback," he added, "We'll have something newsworthy on
that topic next week." But a "number of [UNC] insiders"
have said that the "NC" jersey "might be on its way out."
Baddour did say that the "notion among some of the team's
fans" that the uniforms are part of the school's contract
with Nike was inaccurate. Baddour: "We could have gone back
to the previous uniforms at any time during the season. ...
We never signed anything committing us to wear them for a
specific period" (Raleigh NEWS & OBSERVER, 7/28).
