PHOENIX MAYOR SAYS NO THANKS TO NEW CARDS STADIUM IN CITY

Phoenix Mayor Skip Rimsza said yesterday that "he's not
interested in locating a new stadium" for the NFL Cardinals
in the city, and hopes the team "will stay near their
current home at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe," according to
Nena Baker of the ARIZONA REPUBLIC. Rimsza said that he
will look to gain support for a $500M upgrade of the city's
downtown convention center instead. Baker writes that "if
Phoenix does not bid for the" $1.8B finance plan to fund a
new stadium for the Cardinals, an East Valley site
"straddling the Tempe-Mesa city limits" would be the
"leading contender" for the facility (AZ REPUBLIC, 7/21).
