TV MONITOR: Last night's 10:00pm ET 60-minute edition
of FSN's "National Sports Report" led with a 4:03 report on
Pete Sampras winning Wimbledon, followed by Mets C Mike
Piazza's reaction to being hit by a pitch by Yankees P Roger
Clemens on Saturday and All-Star injury updates. "NSR" had
7:50 of total Wimbledon coverage. Last night's 11:00pm ET
60-minute edition of CNN/SI's "Sports Tonight" led with a
3:16 report on Sampras' win at Wimbledon, followed by
reactions to Piazza being hit and Braves-Red Sox. "Sports
Tonight" had 10:07 of total Wimbledon coverage. Last night's
11:00pm ET 60-minute edition of ESPN's "SportsCenter" led
with a 4:08 report on Sampras win at Wimbledon, followed by
Yankees-Mets and Braves-Red Sox. "SportsCenter" had 6:52 of
total Wimbledon coverage (THE DAILY).
NOTES: In Winston-Salem, Mike Mulhern cited NASCAR
sources as saying that TNN's Steve Byrnes "may be the
anchor" for Fox's new one-hour NASCAR pre-race show. Fox
"also plans a 30-minute post-race show next year, but
drivers are expected to strongly resist having to hang
around the track that long after a race" (WINSTON-SALEM
JOURNAL, 7/8)....In Denver, Sam Adams wrote that Wednesday's
debut of FSN's "Regional Sports Report" had a "good flow."
Adams: "Now if they could just do something to change the 11
p.m. start time" (ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS, 7/8)....USA TODAY's
Larry King writes that the Washington Post's Tony Kornheiser
