PADRES MCGRORY TAPPED TO OVERSEE DEVELOPMENT WITH PRICE

          The Padres announced Friday that Exec VP & COO JACK
     MCGRORY will relinquish those responsibilities to become
     President of Downtown Development, Inc., the newly-created
     company that will manage $500M in assets for the team's real
     estate dealings and entrepreneurial ventures in a
     neighborhood now being created in the East Village section
     of San Diego.  McGrory will resume working with SOL PRICE,
     for whom McGrory previously served as President of Price
     Enterprises from September '97 to November '99.  McGrory,
     who will become a member of the Padres' BOD, will make the
     transition to the new roles by mid-August (Padres).  Padres
     President LARRY LUCCHINO said that Downtown Development "may
     be set up" as a Padres subsidiary or as a joint venture
     between the team and Price.  Lucchino, whose prostate cancer
     surgery last October led to McGrory taking the team role,
     said, "I really appreciate (McGrory) diving into this during
     a tough time in my life" (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 7/8).
