LYCOS LOGS OFF FROM WINSTON CUP TEAM DEAL; PETTY'S NEW LOOK

Lycos is "out" as the primary sponsor of the Tim
Beverley-owned No. 10 Winston Cup Pontiac with driver Johnny
Benson, according to Rea McLeroy of the RICHMOND TIMES-
DISPATCH, who writes that the team says that it "cannot
discuss the situation." The "sponsor loss comes as Beverley
works to sell or merge" the team, "possibly" with MB2
Motorsports and driver Ken Schrader. McLeroy also reports
that Viagra has "scheduled a news conference today" to
formally announce its "estimated" $15M per year primary
sponsorship of the Roush Racing-owned No. 6 Ford and driver
Mark Martin (RICHMOND TIMES DISPATCH, 6/30).
NASCAR NOTES: As General Mills' Cheerios brand has
"taken over primary sponsorship" of the Petty Enterprises-
owned No. 43 Pontiac and driver John Andretti, the car will
feature "different colors" during Saturday night's Pepsi 400
at Daytona Int'l Speedway. Instead of the "Petty Blue and
red STP color scheme," the car will "sport Petty Blue and
yellow, with a Cheerios logo on the hood" (Minneapolis STAR
TRIBUNE, 6/30)....WINSTON CUP SCENE's Rick Houston reports
that "longtime" Busch Series sponsor Lysol "will leave"
Atkins Motorsports and driver Elton Sawyer at the end of the
season (WINSTON CUP SCENE, 6/29 issue).
