Nineteen-year-old "racing phenom" Casey Atwood signed a
deal yesterday to drive for Ray Evernham's new Dodge Winston
Cup team beginning next season, according to Larry Woody of
the Nashville TENNESSEAN, who writes the deal "potentially
could make [Atwood] the richest professional athlete ever to
come out of Nashville." Atwood, who possesses a
"combination of talent and charisma," will continue to race
in the Busch Grand National Series this season (Nashville
TENNESSEAN, 5/26). Meanwhile, Dodge Motorsports' Winston
Cup merchandise, including clothing, flags, key chains,
magnets, license plates and decals, went on sale yesterday.
The merchandise is being sold at Winston Cup events and
online, and will soon be sold in NASCAR retail stores and at
Dodge dealerships throughout the U.S. (REUTERS, 5/25).
