NAMES IN THE NEWS

          The MUHAMMAD ALI BOXING REFORM ACT -- designed to
     prevent promoters from exploiting pro boxers with coercive
     contracting practices and to reform boxing's ratings system
     -- was approved by the U.S. House of Representatives after
     earlier passing the Senate.  The bill now awaits PRESIDENT
     CLINTON's signature (THE DAILY)....ASHLEY JUDD, DYLAN
     MCDERMOTT and JEFF BRIDGES will host the inaugural LAUREUS
     WORLD SPORTS AWARDS Thursday in Monte Carlo, saluting
     athletes such as ANDRE AGASSI, TIGER WOODS, LINDSAY
     DAVENPORT, SERGIO GARCIA, TONY HAWK and SERENA WILLIAMS. 
     TONI BRAXTON, BON JOVI and ALL SAINTS will perform on the
     show, scheduled to air on June 6 on TNT (USA TODAY, 5/23).
