F-1 ISN'T THE LONELIEST NUMBER FOR IMS: RACE TO DRAW FANS

Formula One (F-1) is "assured" of having its largest
crowd ever in the U.S. for its September race at IMS, as all
200,000 permanent seats at the track have already been sold,
and with general admission tickets still available, the race
"could be looking at a gathering of" 225,000 fans, according
to Robin Miller of the INDIANAPOLIS STAR. The largest F-1
crowds to date in the U.S. were estimated between 80,000-
90,000 for races at Watkins Glen, NY, and Long Beach, CA,
from '59-91. Ticket prices for the IMS race range from $45-
150, with general admission at $30 (INDY STAR, 5/10).
HOT MARKET: After NASCAR awarded a Winston Cup race to
     Chicagoland Speedway on Monday, Chicagolandspeedway.com
reported 419,000 hits and the ticket line for the race track
in Joliet, IL, logged 120 calls per hour (SUN-TIMES, 5/10).
