MC-NUGGETS FOR MCDAVID? FORMER MAVS OWNER EYES TEAMS

Former Mavericks Minority Owner David McDavid "plans to
submit a bid to purchase" the Nuggets, Avalanche and Pepsi
Center from Liberty Media, according to NBA sources cited by
Steve Caulk of the ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS. McDavid, who
operates several Dallas-area auto dealerships, owned 12.5%
of the Mavericks until the team was recently sold to Mark
Cuban. McDavid is expected to receive his payment from
Cuban for his stake in the team today, "which would free him
to pursue" Liberty's sports assets. Although McDavid did
not comment on his interest in the Denver teams and arena,
his former partner in the Mavs, Frank Zaccanelli, said that
McDavid is "substantial enough" to reach a deal that could
be worth as much as $450M. At the NBA owners' meeting this
week, NBA Commissioner David Stern told team owners that
McDavid "plans to pursue the Denver teams." So far, at
least five individuals and groups have "expressed interest"
in bidding on the sports assets (ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS, 4/14).
