SARA LEVINSON TO DEPART AFTER FIVE YEARS AT NFL PROPERTIES

NFLP President SARA LEVINSON is resigning after five
and a half years "as the NFL's top marketer," according to
Terry Lefton of BRANDWEEK ONLINE. While "the suspicion is
that she will join the parade of sports marketers hopping to
Internet companies," Levinson "was evasive" when asked about
her next move. Levinson: "It's a startup with a dot.com
component, but something not solely based on the Internet.
Really, what's intriguing about it is the entrepreneurial
atmosphere." Levinson, who joined the NFL in '94 from MTV,
said she will leave in April. Lefton: "As far as a
successor, with the NFL looking to reorganize, the likely
scenario sees the league unifying with [NFLP] and
eliminating the positions of Levinson and of former NFL
President Neil Austrian," who left last year. Possibilities
in the reorganization "range from cutback to dissolution of
much of the NFL's marketing arm, since the agreement that
binds the clubs' marketing rights to the league expires
after the 2002 season" (BRANDWEEK ONLINE, 3/17).
