MARKETING NOTES

SWEETNESS: In Chicago, Elliott Harris writes that
Walter Payton "will be featured on a commemorative" limited-
edition 18-oz. package of Wheaties cereal. The boxes can be
purchased at www.generalmills.com for $14.95 and will be
available in the Chicago area beginning next week and in a
24-oz. package nationally thereafter. Payton will be
featured on a Wheaties box for the eighth time, second only
to Michael Jordan (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 2/29).
ON THE STREET: Tucker Anthony Cleary Gull analyst
Steven Richter, on any "buys" in the footwear sector: "We
like Venator, because it has been a big turnaround story and
they're doing all the right things with a new CEO. Their
size of stores are very well positioned for what is
happening in retail -- they're smaller, such as the
Footlocker stores. ... Our favorite in the sector is
     probably Vans" (CBS MarketWatch, 2/28).
